Volkswagen presented the Tiguan GTE Active Concept in Detroit at the beginning of 2016. The five-seater concept car was already based on the later second-generation Tiguan and its styling was tailored especially for the US market. A progressive feature: the four-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid boasts a gasoline engine and two electric motors (system power output 165 kW / 225 PS). The production version of the US Tiguan followed in 2017 as a seven-seater. In Europe, the current Tiguan is available with five seats or as the Tiguan Allspace with up to 7 seats. The US model and the Tiguan Allspace share the long wheelbase.
