All-wheel drive 4MOTION.
Three 4MOTION models. The Tayron is offered with a total of seven engine versions. The range consists of a mild hybrid drive (eTSI), two plug-in hybrid drives (eHybrid), two turbodiesel engines (TDI) and two turbocharged petrol engines (TSI). The two turbocharged purely petrol engines – 150 kW (204 PS) and 195 kW (265 PS) – as well as the most powerful turbodiesel with 142 kW (193 PS are always coupled to the 4MOTION all-wheel drive; all other versions have front-wheel drive. Gearshifts are always performed by an automatic direct shift gearbox (DSG). The all-wheel drive makes the Tayron an SUV that is the ideal vehicle for frequent drivers on every day of the year, regardless of the weather or region of use. Every Tayron 4MOTION is also ideal as a towing vehicle that – with a maximum trailer weight of up to 2,500 kg (braked, 8% gradient; 2,300 kg with 12% gradient) – is perfect for transporting horses, classic cars, motorboats or a large caravan for holidays.
4MOTION with intelligent multiplate clutch. The 4MOTION all-wheel drive in the Tayron uses a sixth-generation multiplate clutch for power transmission to the rear axle. This is characterised by intelligent drive management: under normal driving conditions – for example in the city on dry roads without maximum load requirements – only the front axle is powered. That is efficient. The rear axle is driven using the 4MOTION clutch and propshaft only if there is a higher load requirement, increased lateral acceleration or a wheel is at risk of losing grip. The all-wheel drive can also be activated manually by the driving experience control in order to use the all-wheel drive permanently on the way to the ski slopes, for example. In addition to the Eco, Comfort, Sport and Individual profiles, the Offroad and Snow all-wheel drive profiles are also available for the 4MOTION models.
Intelligent towing vehicle. All Tayron TSI and TDI 4MOTION models are approved for high trailer weights of up to 2,500 kg. When towing a trailer, the Tayron 4MOTION automatically activates the Trailer driving profile to optimally control the distribution of power between the front and rear axles for trailer operation. If the SUV is ordered with the ball coupling that can be folded out semi-automatically, the Trailer Assist trailer manoeuvring system is also part of the equipment. This assist system automatically controls the steering angle of the trailer when reversing by means of an active steering intervention. The Tayron TDI 4MOTION is additionally equipped with a centrifugal pendulum. This neutralises engine vibrations that could otherwise be transmitted to the rear of the SUV through the propshaft. The centrifugal pendulum is integrated in the dual-mass flywheel between the engine and gearbox, which makes it very effective at compensating the transmission of vibrations from the engine to the drivetrain and optimising noise comfort.
