The sportiest Golf models from Volkswagen can now be ordered in a new look and with a host of additional features. Customers can choose between the front-wheel drive Golf GTI Clubsport and three all-wheel drive versions: the classic Golf R, the spacious Golf R Variant and the exclusive Golf R Black Edition special model. All four models offer the perfect mix of extreme sportiness, comfort and everyday usability. The Golf GTI Clubsport is available from 48,075 euros in Germany and the Golf R from 53,795 euros. The Golf R Variant can be configured and ordered from 55,065 euros. Prices for the exclusive Golf R Black Edition, which is completely in black, start from 58,440 euros.

The Golf R and Golf R Variant are on the starting line: Volkswagen presents the two new top-of-the-range Golf models in a world premiere. They come with optimised driving dynamics, exclusive standard equipment and an output of 245 kW (333 PS). The new maximum output has increased by 10 kW (14 PS) compared with the predecessors of these models. The top speed of 250 km/h can be boosted by another 20 km/h to 270 km/h with the optional R-Performance package. This makes these two Golf R versions the world’s fastest Volkswagen production models, alongside the Arteon R Shooting Brake. Pre-sales start on 3 July in Germany. The Golf R will be available from €53,795, and from €55,065 as an estate (Golf R Variant). An additional option: the Golf R Black Edition, an exclusive all-black model available from €58,440.

With a length of just under 4.87 metres and a height of only 1.46 metres, the Arteon R Shooting Brake is an automotive phenomenon with its ultra-flat silhouette. With 235 kW (320 PS) and 420 Nm of torque, it dazzles as a superior companion for long journeys and a cutting-edge high-performance estate for the race track. The dual clutch gearbox’s seven gears can be changed manually using the new, large shift paddles, whose upgraded design makes them easy to use on the road and race track. The high-performance brake system ensures the response of a true sports car: The Arteon R Shooting Brake decelerates just as well as it accelerates. A speed-dependent map in the electromechanical brake servo ensures precise brake control. Its standard of comfort and the space on offer are well above-average.

Volkswagen R: The strategy and the future
From the racetrack to high-tech More than 300,000 customers have chosen high-performance vehicles from Volkswagen R in 20 years. There are more than 6.5 million registered followers on social media channels. Current demand and the success of the past two decades show that, since it launched in 2002, Volkswagen R has successfully established itself as a premium performance brand – on the market and within the Group. The performance-enhanced and refined series production vehicles with their own unique design are a mainstay in Volkswagen’s model portfolio – and will remain so in the future. Volkswagen R is realigning itself with the #WayToZero strategy and transforming itself into an all-electric premium performance brand by 2030. To continue its success story, Volkswagen R is gradually converting its portfolio, with several electric R models in the planning stages. We are currently assessing various concepts and possibilities but will only offer R models that meet our requirements. One thing is certain: the future of R is electric. The core elements of the R brand are quality, suitability for everyday use, design and innovative technology as well as sustainable performance and a love of the extraordinary. With its transformation into an all-electric brand, the R customer experience is set to become even more intense. Surveys have revealed that 85 percent of Volkswagen R customers are extremely interested in electric mobility. Volkswagen R will continue to develop all of its models on the racetrack. When translating driving pleasure and agility to electric drive systems, cooperation with racing drivers remains essential – after all, motor racing is part of the premium performance brand’s DNA.

As of: 03.12.21 When it comes to plug-in hybrids, the new Volkswagen models – such as the Golf eHybrid, Golf GTE, Tiguan eHybrid, Arteon eHybrid, Arteon Shooting Brake eHybrid and the Touareg eHybrid and Touareg R – are compelling the trend towards electric drive systems. Furthermore, the latest plug-in hybrid version of the Passat Variant (GTE) has been on the market since 2019.
