Two months after the world premiere of the Concept One study in Detroit, Volkswagen presented the Concept One Cabriolet at the Geneva International Motor Show in 1994. Not many concept cars have ever been given such a tumultuous welcome. However, it took some time, indeed until 2003, before the Cabriolet could be realized. At the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the New Beetle Cabriolet continued the tradition of the open Volkswagen, of which more than 1 million units had been built. An automatically operated rollover protection system made the Cabriolet extremely safe. It was presented to the international media in Miami in the summer of 2003, with colors appropriate for Florida and the car itself such as Aquarius Blue and Harvest Moon Beige.
