Natural gas engines (TGI)
Thanks to their high efficiency and low emissions (no particulate emissions, carbon neutral depending on fuel source), natural gas engines are currently experiencing a big upsurge. Volkswagen offers a number of models with natural gas engines. They are designated as “TGI” powertrains. In the spring of 2018, Volkswagen presented a natural gas engine of the future, the 1.5 TGI evo. The 1.5-litre direct injection engine with a VTG (variable turbine geometry) turbocharger is based on the new 1.5 TSI ACT BlueMotion petrol engine that has already been introduced. Like the petrol version, the natural gas engine, which has an identical power output of 96 kW / 130 PS, uses the efficient TSI/TGI Miller combustion process.
