In April 2005, the two-door Fox assumed the key role of entry-level model in Europe as successor to the Lupo and predecessor to the up! The cleverly designed Fox, which was 3.82 meters long, was not among the smallest cars on the market but this was not the original intention anyway. The objective was to offer a full-feature automobile at a very low price. The small Volkswagen offered generous space: optionally, the rear seat could be longitudinally adjusted by up to 15 centimeters and featured a split backrest. Depending on the configuration, the cargo capacity was therefore between 260 and 1,016 liters.
